How to play

Strumming. Sweep down across the strings to play, sweep back up to return without playing. Hold Shift to play the upstroke too. “On click” only plays while the mouse button is pressed; “On hover” plays in every direction.

Chords. In Zones the chord changes depending on where along the strings you play, and at the bottom you’ll find three strumming rhythms: tap one and the arrows light up in time (tap again to stop them). In Manual you choose the chord: the nine quick chords have their key number (1-9), and below you can build any chord from root note and type. Keyboard: Q W E R T Y for the single strings.

Try a song. Not sure what to play? The “Try a song” button picks one at random, gives you its chords in a simple version and sets the zones and capo for you. Strum from left to right and start again: the card highlights the chord you’re playing and the next one. They’re just the chords, not the melodies.

Capo. Drag the pin on the neck (or use + and −, or the arrow keys): it transposes every chord by up to 9 semitones. The name at the bottom right tells you what’s really playing.

Save keeps the recording in this browser. On iPhone, if you can’t hear anything, check the silent switch on the side.

Put your creativity to the test by stepping outside the usual limits. Strum the guitar, make up your own melody or try a song with suggested chords, and off you go. The rest is pure fun.
